“You,” “the user,” and “users”

• If your user does the action, write second person (“you”)

  • Save your file.

• If the end user (as opposed to the programmer reading your document) does the action, write “the user” or “users”

  • The user saves his or her file.
  • The user saves a/the file.
• Use “users” to avoid “him” or “her”
  • Users save their files.
